CAB
Clergy Community Advisory Boards
What is a CAB?
A Clergy Community Advisory Board (CAB) is a network of pastors and individuals in church leadership that meet monthly to discuss needs related to children and families in crisis in their communities. The focus is on raising awareness and creatively and strategically addressing child welfare & community needs. When communities don’t have high proportions of children and families in crisis, clergy are encouraged to join CABs in communities that do.
Currently there are CABs in Grand Prairie, Brownwood and San Antonio, Texas, and in Hawaii. We are currently working toward establishing collaborative work in South Dallas, Austin and Abilene.
CAB Responsibilities
1. LISTEN and LEARN - Working with child welfare professionals, law enforcement, school district personnel, and other child serving agencies, a CAB should review data pertaining to child welfare (namely, family preservation/strengthening, foster care and adoption needs, and youth aging out of foster care) in the targeted community and learn from those serving vulnerable children and families on a daily basis.
2. ENGAGE CHURCHES & COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS - Through hosting regularly held meetings, attending various community centered events, and strategic networking, a CAB invites local churches and community stake holders to understand child welfare in their community and become involved in active service.
3. STRATEGIZE - Through the development of programs, written materials, and events, the CAB develops localized plans of action to serve and advocate for vulnerable children and families.
4. SERVE - The CAB exists to serve its community and one another. The collaborative, ecumenical environment of a CAB allows for cross-sector leaders to serve hurting children and families together without elevating one name over another.
5. PRAY - Although the CAB is a collective including non faith-based entities, prayer is key to our mission.

The Gospel in Action
